Outstanding Cambridge Learner Awards for Al Waha Students

Cambridge International Examinations (CIE) declares the Outstanding Cambridge Learner Awards for Saudi Arabia for the examination session of May/June 2013………and Al Waha proudly announces the outstanding academic achievements of the senior students who have upheld the school name yet again!

In Jeddah, this year 51 secondary school learners have received awards for exceptional performance in CIE examinations, including four learners who have achieved the highest marks in the world and 23 learners who have attained the highest marks in Saudi Arabia in specific subjects. The awards also celebrate the achievements of those learners who have been recognised for ‘High Achievement’ based on outstanding performance in subjects which are not yet so widely taken in Jeddah, and of those learners who have achieved the total highest cumulative marks across a number of subjects.

Winners of these awards have out-performed thousands of candidates worldwide who sat examinations in Cambridge IGCSE, Cambridge International AS Level and Cambridge International A Level in the May/June 2013 session.

Heartiest congratulations to the following students, their proud parents and educators at Al Waha:

Excellence………..a way of life at Al Waha

As always, the commencement of a new academic session is marked by the release of the CIE results of our senior students and I take this opportunity to share with you the highlights of their outstanding performance in the CIE May/June 2013 IGCSE, AS and ‘A’ Level examinations.

This year, out of the 42 students registered for the IGCSE examinations, 21 targeted the ICE award. While 13 of them have received the certification in the Distinction category, 8 have been placed in the Merit category. Maintaining the tradition of academic excellence, performance in individual subject streams has been outstanding and an impressive array of A* and A grades have marked student achievement in the Languages, Sciences, Mathematics, Humanities and ICT. Out of a total of 309 subject entries in the IGCSE program, 89.32% of the grades lie between A* - B and 99.35% between A* - C, with 114 A*’s, 88 A’s and 74 B’s.

While the entire group of students has upheld the school name and kept the banner flying even higher this year, we are all extremely proud of the outstanding feat achieved by two of our students, Hibbah Irfan and Asma Mubashir, who have led the honour roll in the IGCSE program with 8 A*’s, i.e. the top-most grade in each and every subject that they have written the examination in, followed by Zargham Zia, Faizan Khalid, Ammar Loya and Sarah Shaikh with 7 A*s and Hammad Shafique, Nameer Khan, Shahbaz Haroon, Hania Habib and Rabia Farooq with 6 A*s.

All the 20 students registered for the AS examinations successfully kept the graph of academic performance moving upwards this year as well! Out of the 52 subject entries in total, in the AS program, 65% of the grades lie between A – C with 19 As and 10 Bs. The reason why there is no A* is because this grade is not awarded at the AS level.

Salma Zacky led the batch with 4As, closely followed by Ayesha Ather and Jasirul Qadir with 3As and a B and Tasneem Jarin and Mustafa Arif with 3 As.

The A level program is getting stronger each year, alhamdolillah, and it gives me immense pleasure to share with you that out of the 45 subject entries, 69% of the grades lie between A* – C.

Sana Nasir and Uzma Anam Riyaz, the torch-bearers of the ‘A’ Level program, have scaled the top position with 2 A*’s and an A in their examination subjects followed by Azaina Shaikh and Tayyaba Baig with 2As and a B and Maria Masood with 2Asand an A in English Language and Literature as an AS subject.

Congratulations to the High Achievers of Al Waha at Cambridge International Examinations

CIE 2012 Results ........ continuing the tradition of excellence at Al Waha

Focus, diligence, perseverance and rigorous training......the continuous watchwords of the Senior School IGCSE, AS and A Level team of teachers and students......have once again delivered! Continuing the tradition of excellence, the students of Grades 10, 11 and 12 have performed brilliantly and obtained top-notch grades in the CIE May/June 2012 examinations.

Al Waha offers extremely rigorous and challenging two-year programs to students in Grades 9 and 10 (IGCSE) and in Grades 11 and 12 (AS and ‘A’ Level). By training students for a wide-based combination of subjects, the IGCSE program is designed to enable students to target the prestigious Cambridge University-based International Certificate of Education (ICE) group award and the AS and ‘A’ Level program is designed in such a way that students may target the Advanced ICE.

This year, out of the 41 students registered for the IGCSE examinations, 29 targeted the ICE award. While 22 of them have received the certification in the Distinction category, 7 have been placed in the Merit category. Performance in individual subject streams has been outstanding as well and an impressive array of A* and A grades have marked student achievement in the Languages, Sciences, Mathematics, Humanities and ICT. While the entire group of students has upheld the school name and kept the banner flying even higher this year, the school is proud to announce that Salma Zacky and Ayesha Ather are heading the honour roll in the IGCSE program with 9 A*’s, i.e. the top-most grade in each and every subject that they have written the examination in. Moaz Shafique, the torch-bearer of the ‘A’ Level program, has scaled the top position with straight A*’s and A’s in all his examination subjects

Their performance is closely followed by Mariam Hashmi with 8A*’s, Mariam Aboutaj and Nafeesah Jaleel with 7A*’s. While Hussain Khan, Muzammil Abdul Rauf, Faiz Khan, Anera Sheikh and Tasnim Jarin deserve accolades for their 5A*’s and 3 A’s, Mustafa Arif and Rayan Zaffar with 5 A*’s and 2A’s have given them close competition. We applaud the superlative efforts of all other students of the IGCSE program as well, in particular Siti Faihah Shamshul, Abdullah Rafiq, Hamza Adeel-ul Haq, Rabia Mushtaq, Zaid Ahsan Khan and Taj Tanveer (in order of performance), who have brought laurels to the school and their parents with outstanding grades in almost all the subjects.

In the AS and ‘A’ Level program, out of a total of 60 subject entries, 60% of the grades lie between A* - B and 85% between A* - C (the highest grade awarded at the AS level is A). In the ‘A’ Level program, in addition to Moaz Shafique’s top performance, Muhammed Saajid Rifkie with 2A’s and 1B and Hammad bin Nesar and Sukayna Khalid have proved their academic mettle as high achievers. In the AS group, Uzma Anam Riaz, Azaina Sheikh and Sana Nasir have done very well with top grades in their subjects.
